Walmart COI FAQ

What are Walmart's minimum insurance requirements?

$1M per occurrence / $2M general aggregate of CGL plus product liability sized to Walmart's category matrix. Cat I non-food = $2M product aggregate. Cat I food/drink = $4M. Cat II = $10M. Cat III = $20M aggregate.

What is the Walmart product liability matrix?

Walmart classifies vendors into 3 tiers based on product risk. Lower-risk goods fall in Cat I. Higher-risk goods fall in Cat II or III. Food and drink categories have separate Cat I(F) and Cat II(F) limits.

Where do I email my Walmart COI?

New suppliers: supadm@walmart.com. Existing suppliers with renewals: inscert@wal-mart.com. Suppliers working with Walmart Global Sourcing should continue with their GS contact.

Does Walmart require waiver of subrogation?

Yes. All insurance policies must contain a waiver of subrogation in favor of Walmart, where permitted by law. Must be visible on the COI or via attached endorsement.

Does Walmart accept claims-made policies?

Yes, but only with retroactive date no later than the start of your Walmart relationship and an option to purchase a 24-month extended reporting period. Most suppliers carry occurrence-basis to avoid tail complexity.

What is the Walmart vendor number on my COI?

Walmart issues a unique vendor number to each supplier at onboarding. This number must appear on every COI submitted, along with names of any insured subsidiaries doing business under that vendor number.

Can self-insured retention satisfy Walmart's requirements?

Yes, if your supplier (or parental guarantor) maintains net worth of at least $100,000,000. You provide a letter on company letterhead, signed by an officer, plus audited financials with no negative footnotes.

How much does Walmart-compliant insurance cost?

Cat I sellers: $75-$400/month. Cat II: $500-$2,000+/month due to $10M aggregate. Cat III high-risk consumer goods can run several thousand per month.
