Amazon COI Requirements 2026

Important update · Effective November 2, 2026

Which Amazon insurance rules apply to you?

As of November 2, 2026, Amazon applies different requirements depending on what you sell. Check which group you are in before relying on the requirements below.

If you sell in an enhanced safety category

Children’s products, supplements and ingestibles, lithium battery products, helmets and safety equipment, mattresses, generators and pressure washers, tires, pool safety products, home medical devices.

The $10,000 monthly threshold no longer applies to you. You need $1M per occurrence and $1M aggregate regardless of revenue, and it covers listings you already have live.

If you do not sell in those categories

Most Amazon sellers are in this group.

Everything on this page still applies to you. The $10,000 monthly gross proceeds threshold and the limits below are current and unchanged.

How Much Does Amazon-Compliant Insurance Cost?

Amazon COI FAQ

When does Amazon require sellers to submit a COI?

Amazon requires Pro Merchants and FBA / FBM sellers to submit a Certificate of Insurance once gross proceeds exceed $10,000 in any month. Once required, the COI must remain on file with Amazon and be updated at every policy renewal.

What are Amazon's minimum insurance requirements?

Amazon requires $1,000,000 per occurrence and $1,000,000 general aggregate of commercial general liability insurance, including products / completed operations coverage. Higher limits are acceptable. Many policies are issued with a $2,000,000 aggregate, which exceeds the requirement and still satisfies Amazon. Amazon must be named as an additional insured: "Amazon.com Services LLC, its Affiliates and Assignees."

Does Amazon accept claims-made policies?

Generally no. Amazon requires occurrence-basis policies. Claims-made policies are typically rejected because they require ongoing tail coverage to remain valid after cancellation. Confirm OCCUR is checked on your ACORD 25.

How long does it take to get an Amazon-compliant COI?

Once your policy is bound, your broker can issue a properly formatted COI within 24 to 48 hours. We typically issue same-day for sellers with active policies.

How much does Amazon-compliant insurance cost?

Most ecommerce sellers pay $50 to $200 per month for $1M / $1M CGL with product liability. Cost scales with revenue, product category, and claim history.

What happens if my Amazon COI gets rejected?

Amazon emails the specific rejection reason, typically wrong cert holder, missing additional insured language, low aggregate, or carrier rating issue. A compliant COI can be re-issued the same business day.

Does my Amazon policy cover other marketplaces?

Often yes. One occurrence-basis CGL with the right additional insured endorsements can cover Amazon, Walmart, TikTok Shop, eBay, Etsy, and Shopify. Each platform requires its own additional insured language on the certificate, but the underlying policy is the same.

What if Amazon flags my listing for missing insurance?

Amazon will give you a window (typically 30-60 days) to submit a compliant COI before suppressing listings. Submitting a properly formatted COI immediately resolves most flags.
